Maine beer, environmentally-minded locals

LEWISTON — Environmentally-minded locals will enjoy Maine beer when L/A Green Drinks gets together from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Baxter Brewing Co., 130 Mill St.

The April Green Drinks featured non-profit is the Androscoggin Land Trust.

Admission is $5 for those who bring their own glass or $10 will receive a Baxter glass. Each admission comes with a free beer pour. All are welcome 21 and older with ID.

Poker tournament April 23 

AUBURN — A Texas hold ’em poker tournament will be held at American Legion Post No. 31 on Saturday, April 23, at 426 Washington St. North.

Doors open at 11 a.m., and the start time is noon. The entry fee is $45 with an optional $5 high hand. Lunch will be available.

Racial justice group to hold vigil

AUBURN — Central Maine Showing up for Racial Justice will hold its monthly Black Lives Matter vigil at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, on the Auburn side of the Longley Bridge.

SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability.

Senior center begins book club

AUBURN — Auburn Recreation Department Seniors Center will host a book club from 10 to 11 a.m. on the last day of the month at the Auburn Public Library. The first meeting will be on Monday, April 25.

Participants should bring a brunch item to share.

The Ark to discuss immune system

LEWISTON — The Ark & Olive Branch Cafe will host “How to get Healthy and stay Healthy…Simply!” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at 791 Lisbon St.

Dr. Rudy Davis, a naturopathic doctor and co-director of the Bayside Natural Health Center in New Brunswick, Canada, will be the presenter.

Davis will address the working of the immune system and teach about the foods that activate and cleanse the immune system.

Tri-Town Penguins to meet

DURHAM — The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club of Durham, Freeport and Pownal will hold its final meeting and Landowner Appreciation Dinner at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road.

Potvin to talk emergency preparedness

AUBURN — Joanne Potvin will speak on “Emergency Preparedness for Seniors” at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in the Androscoggin Community Room at the Auburn Public Library.

The presentation is part of the Primetime Adventures series, a partnership between the Lewiston-Auburn Senior College and the library.

Potvin, Senior College instructor, will introduce seniors to their vulnerabilities to various manmade and natural hazards. She will provide information to help seniors remain safe in their homes as well as what to do in the event they must evacuate their homes.

She is a certified emergency manager and director of the Androscoggin Unified Emergency Management Agency. As director, Potvin is responsible for assisting local government officials, public safety agencies, schools, hospitals and other institutions with development and implementation of all-hazards emergency preparedness/response plans at the personal and family levels.

Cribbage league lists winners

LEWISTON — Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners on April 14 were, first place, Bob Cielenski and Dwight Webb; second, Betty Ames and Maurice Gagne; third, Don Haley; fourth, Carol Laplante and Richard Champagne; and fifth, Trudy Faunce and Vicki Thayer-Adams.

Seniors play on Thursdays at the Lewiston Memorial Armory.
