1916 – 2016
CANTON — John P. Iezzi, 99, formerly of Rumford for many years died Saturday, May 7 at the Pinnacle Health & Rehab in Canton.
He was born in Portland on July 23, 1916, the son of Sante and Gaudenza (D’Andrea) Iezzi, and had graduated from Deering High School, Portland, class of 1936.
John worked for Boise Cascade Paper Company as a shift engineer in the steam plant for over 33 years until retirement in 1981. He owned and operated the Rumford Driving School. He was an active member of the Local & State F.O.E., member of Rumford B.P.O.E., the Sons of Italy and the Snowshoe Club. He was also a Communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius–St. John’s Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was formerly a co-owner of the Corner Lunch.
He was married to Muriel Shaw in 1949 who died in 1987 and later married Betty Witas of Rumford in 1998, who survives him. Other survivors include stepsons, Dana LeBarron and wife, Ann, of Rangeley and Alton Steward Jr. and wife, Ginger, of Rumford; stepdaughters, Crystal Wilde and husband, Richard, of Farmington, Bonnie Paskell and husband, David, of North Anson, and Brenda Bragg and fiancé, Daryl, of Wilton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Muriel; baby son, Paul; and all his siblings.
