BRUNSWICK – “Patchwork: An International Story Quilt,” an original theater piece developed and performed by teens from around the world, opened yesterday and will run through Saturday, Aug. 14, at The Theater Project, 14 School St.

The production is a dramatic “quilt of stories” that reflects diverse cultural heritages and traditions. The performances are the culmination of a four-week International Teen Festival theater camp at The Theater Project.

Two Palestinian teens from East Jerusalem and two teens from Krakow, Poland, joined 17 teens from Maine for classes in improvisation and storytelling.

The faculty of theater professionals from Krakow, East Jerusalem and the United States includes Al Miller, Khitam Edelbi, Robert Wyrod and Keith Anctil, assisted by Moley Haley. Edelbi is a drama teacher with the Palestinian Counseling Center in East Jerusalem where she works with teenagers helping them to write, develop and perform theater pieces about their personal lives there. Wyrod runs the “We are the World” Theater Company in Krakow, which provides hands-on theater experiences for teenagers in orphanages and adults in homeless shelters.

The “Patchwork Story Quilt” performances will take place Thursdays, Aug. 5 and 12; Fridays, Aug. 6 and 13; and Saturdays, Aug. 7 and 14. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m.
