WAYNE — The Cary Memorial Library will present Katalin Vecsey, Bates College Senior Lecturer in Theater, for a program, From Script to Screen: Meryl Streep’s Genius, at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, Wayne.
Streep’s success is undeniable: 19 Academy Award nominations and three awards. She is considered by many critics to be the greatest living actress. She is best known for her ability to breathe life into her characters, both fictional and historical. But when it comes to understanding how she creates a character, she is reluctant to talk about her method.
Vecsey will discuss some of Streep’s famous roles, using film clips as illustrations, and demonstrate how an actor, applying the Stanislavski acting tradition of building a character, might develop these roles.
A native of Budapest, Hungary, Katalin Vecsey, Ph.D., has been at Bates College since 1996, teaching advanced voice and speech courses, text analysis, stage dialects and voice-over techniques.
A reception featuring light refreshments will follow the program. FMI: 685-3754
