Q: What can you tell me about “The West Wing” actor John Spencer? He’s a favorite of mine. – N.C.V., Saratoga, Calif.

A: The Emmy-winning actor got his first TV part on “The Patty Duke Show,” as Henry, English cousin Cathy’s boyfriend. Since then, he’s gone on to build a prestigious career on stage, screen and TV. Before joining “West Wing” as White House Chief of Staff Leo McGarry, Spencer, 58, was probably best known to TV audiences as L.A. Law attorney Tommy Mullaney. Spencer is a self-professed workaholic, a recovering alcoholic and former smoker. He lives with his longtime companion actress/choreographer Patti Mariano, a friend since their New Jersey high school days.

Q: Did Anthony Edwards ever win an Emmy for his portrayal of Dr. Mark Greene on “ER”? I know George Clooney went on to the stardom he deserved, and I’ve enjoyed seeing Julianna Margulies from time to time, but I sure hope Edwards has something in the works. – S.W., Erie, Pa.

A: Edwards never won an Emmy, but he was nominated four times in the best actor in a drama series category, from 1995 through 1998. He lost to Mandy Patinkin (“Chicago Hope”), twice to Dennis Franz (“NYPD Blue”) and to Andre Braugher (“Homicide: Life on the Street”). He did, however, take home both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for his “ER” work. Clooney never won an Emmy for “ER” either, but Margulies won as best supporting actress after the show’s first season. Edwards’ latest project is in theaters now: the sci-fi film “The Forgotten,” with Julianne Moore, Gary Sinise (“CSI: NY”) and Dominic West (“The Wire.”)

A: Barber, 28, is a new mom. She and her husband, Jeremy Rytky, had their first child, a son, in April. After “Full House” was over, the young actress attended Whittier College in California, did graduate work abroad and married in 2002.
