100 years ago, 1916
The “Clean-up Committee” of the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce met Wednesday night at the rooms of the chamber. Many suggestions were made regarding the conduct of the work and it was voted to ask the street department, or board of public works, to provide galvanized iron barrels for waste paper, banana peels and the like at intervals along Lisbon, Main and such other traveled streets as may seem best to them. It was voted to ask D. J. Callahan to request the school children to pick up instead of throw down waste paper.

50 years ago, 1966
Five diamond attractions are slated for local twilight play this evening. The Twin City Recreation Baseball League will have the Auburn Asas playing host to West Minot at Pettengill Park at 6 p.m. Manager Hank Gagnon is expected to be starting either Lefty Paul Cements or Chris Houlares on the hill against the Westies, who have split in two previous league games The W M team opened by tripping Norm’s Café, and bowed to the Roberts 88ers in their second outing. This will be the first league start for the Asas.

25 years ago, 1991
Lewiston Police Chief Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. has named Sgt. William Welch and officers Brian Sibley, Leonard Macdaid and Michael McGonagle to the department’s new community-oriented policing team. The three patrol officers were chosen out of a pool of eight applicants, Gilbert said, based on such qualifications as creativity, maturity and communications skills.
