H. W. Mann of Auburn, who has been head of the commercial department in Edward Little High school for three years and supervisor of penmanship for the schools throughout the city, will open an up to date business school in Auburn. This will be known as the Maine School of Commerce The special summer session will upon July 5 and continue until the opening of the fall term, Sept. 12. An evening school will e conducted in the fall. Mr. Mann has leased the entire third floor of the Y. M. C. A. block and has had it fitted up with every facility.

Seven prominent Auburn men have been named to a citizens committee that will make plans for a testimonial banquet to be tendered Auburn Police Chief Alton E. Savage who will be retiring next month after 26 years as a law enforcement officer. Mayor Harry W. Woodard Jr. is one of those who have been named to the committee which will hold its first meeting Tuesday night in the investigations division office at police headquarters.

After three years of preparing to win the world title from long-reigning World Boxing Association champ Brian Mitchell, Joey Gamache has to settle for trying to win it against Mitchell’s former sparring partner — Jerry Ngobeni of Witbank, South Africa. The sixth-ranked Ngobeni (pronounced IN-go-benny ) signed Friday to replace No. 1 contender Anibal Nieves as Gamache’s opponent in a June 28 box-off for the vacant WBA title at Lewiston Raceway. It is a tradeoff Gamache is glad to make after an acute case of bronchitis forced Nieves to pull out Thursday jeopardizing Gamache’s shot at the title.
