A meeting of the Lewiston Board of Mayor and Aldermen was held. Those present were Mayor Skelton and Aldermen Scott, Wagg, Mailette and Lamb. The principal business was to act on a petition of the Lewiston and Auburn Electric Light Company, asking for privileges to erect poles and string wires on Bates street and between Holland and Howe, from Ash to Pine. The hearing had been duly advertised, and Supt. Sands was present to answer any questions that might be asked. However, no questions were asked and the petition was granted, as prayed for by the company.

A seemingly professional theft of at least $100,000 in diamonds, watches and jewels from Day’s Jewelry Store in Lewiston was marred by at least one amateur move. Detectives discovered evidence the thieves first entered the wrong shop by mistake in their attempt to break into the jewelry store. Lewiston police said the thieves first broke into and entered the Women’s Shop at 86 Lisbon St. from the roof, apparently thinking it was Day’s Jewelry Store. Police said the thieves apparently left the same way they entered when they realized they were in the wrong building. They then moved to 100 Liston St. where they entered the jewelry shop from a skylight on the roof.
