GRAY — The Maine Mineral and Gem Association will present workshops about Maine’s tremendous variety of rocks and minerals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Maine Wildlife Park.

Association members will have several cases of minerals and gemstones found from different areas in Maine on display.

There will be several hands-on education stations for attendees to learn about the interesting minerals that are found in the state, along with knowledgeable people to help answer any questions. 

Available activities will include panning for gold, sluicing for minerals, and mineral identification.

Attendees will learn about the rocks’ life cycles, fossils, the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum and the Mineral and Gem Poster Contest, as well as converse with miners, gem cutters, collectors and scientists.
