NEWRY — Sunday River Resort is no longer in the condominium management business, according to Director of Communications Darcy Lambert.
The resort has been managing some of the condo complexes for their respective homeowners associations. But, Lambert said, there have also been “a number of condominiums managed and rented outside of Sunday River for years.”
She said that over time some of the homeowners associations had left for other management arrangements.
For those that Sunday River continued to manage, there has been a change in recent years in another facet of the HOA/SR relationship: renting out condos for the owners.
“Our main reason for transferring the management of condominiums is because the rental side of the business had been in steady decline for us for years,” said Lambert. “A decade ago there were 500 condominiums rented through Sunday River. Last year we only rented about 100 condominiums.”
She said owners have simply been choosing, more often than not, to not rent out their units.
“The times that we’ve seen condos disappear from the rental pool, it’s been because the ownership has changed hands, the new owner has renovated the condo, and decided to use it for themselves and not as a rental.”
She said no Sunday River employee lost employment as a result of the changes.
“All employees were moved into similar roles within other departments,” she said.
