PORTLAND (AP) – The union that represents workers at the Kennebec Journal has voted to accept wage and benefit concessions sought by the company trying to buy Blethen Maine Newspapers.
Bangor native Richard Connor, editor and publisher of the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., has been negotiating to buy the Press Herald, the Morning Sentinel, the Kennebec Journal and other Blethen Maine properties from the Seattle Times Co.
The Portland Press Herald’s largest union voted to accept the deal on Friday, and the Communication Workers of America, representing 85 workers at the Kennebec Journal, did the same on Saturday.
Two other unions still have to vote but the Portland group was viewed as the biggest hurdle.
