Free meals for children

POLAND — Regional School Unit 16 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program.

Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex age or disability.

Meals will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Serving times are from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 19 at the Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls, at the Minot Consolidated School in Minot, and at the Poland Community School in Poland. 

Nezinscot Valley writing, photo competition

BUCKFIELD — The Zadoc Long Free Library will hold its first Nezinscot Valley Writing and Photo Competition. It’s open to all residents in Buckfield, Sumner and Hartford.

Submissions are due in the Town Office by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13.

Awards and prizes will be presented at the annual Buckfield Community Day on Sept. 5.

Writing and photography awards will be distributed among three age groups: child, age 5-12; teen, 13-19; and adult, 20 and older. Categories in writing are poetry, short stories and essays. Photography categories are nature, animals, people, architectural, sports/action/dance, creative and chemical black and white.
