NORWAY — There will be a Safe Sitter class from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, in the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office building, 193 Main St.

Safe Sitter is a national organization founded in 1980 by Indianapolis pediatrician Patricia A Keener, after her colleague’s 18-month-old choked to death while under an adult sitter’s care.

The program is a medically accurate hands-on instructional program designed for young adolescents. It teaches boys and girls how to handle emergencies when caring for children. The classes are geared toward children 11 and older.

Safe Sitter-certified instructors will teach: infant and child CPR, choking procedure, safety for the sitter, how to call for emergency help, babysitting business skills, basic child care skills, and how to entertain children and keep them safe.

Cost is $50. A $15 scholarship is available upon request.
