LEWISTON – The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce will offer a two-day seminar, “Managing Your Business in a Challenging Economy,” Jan. 22-23, from 8:30-11:30 a.m., at the chamber’s community conference room in the Business Service Center at KeyBank Plaza, 415 Lisbon St.

Instructors will be Greg Gould and Rose Creps of the Maine Small Business Development Center.

The seminar will take a look at accounting and finance. Participants of this two-part workshop will learn the importance of financial calculations and how they relate to better business decisions, particularly in today’s tumultuous economic climates.

Specific topics to be covered include: Understanding and analyzing business’ costs; recognizing how costs, volume and profit relate; calculating a break-even point and a margin of safety; learning to calculate financial ratios and understanding their importance as a management tool; and how to make better short-term business decisions that will effect a profit margin

Cost for the seminar is $40 for members, $95 for nonmembers. There will be a 10 percent discount of the workshop fee for each additional attendee from an organization. For special large group discounts, call the chamber at 783-2249.
