Friday, Sept. 23, Bald Hill will perform at Guthries, 115 Middle St., Lewiston. Bald Hill is Ben DeTroy on mandolin-fiddle, Chris Ricardi on guitar, Renée St. Jean on vocals-guitar, Hal Phillips on vocals-guitar and Todd Burrowes on bass. All hail from New Gloucester and as Ben would say, “Some of us live on Bald Hill; the others wish they did.” Bald Hill is not just where these pickers live, it is a state of mind. That state of mind might lead them to pull out a Jimi Hendricks or Led Zeppelin tune on occasion in addition to their first love, bluegrass. Other big influences are The Dead, The Band, Herb Pedersen and Chris Hillman, The Seldom Scene, and Hank Williams. The show begins at 8 p.m. There is no cover charge. FMI: call 376-3344.
