This is a response to the letters praising Eric Brakey for helping to secure state funds for a new Edward Little High School.
Many people have been involved in securing these funds when, in 2004, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges determined Auburn needed to address the building’s deficiencies in order to keep the school’s accreditation. It took four committees and 12 years to get the project through the competitive process to secure state funding. Brakey was not involved in any of that.
When the local legislative delegation was asked in 2015 if they could gather support for “freezing the list,” Brakey, and others, became involved. Their efforts were not successful.
The state has very strict guidelines and a very specific protocol for securing state funding for school construction. Brakey was not able to circumvent that process.
