Two Republican members of the Androscoggin County delegation lost their bids for re-election to the state Legislature on Tuesday.

In the closest legislative race in the county, Michael McClellan of Raymond lost his attempt to win a fourth term for District 66 when Democratic challenger Jessica Fay of Raymond won with 50.6 percent of the vote.

District 66 includes portions of Poland as well as Raymond and Casco.

Republican Randall Greenwood of Wales, seeking a second term as representative in District 82, dropped a 53 to 47 percent decision to independent Kent Ackley.

In Lewiston, Democratic Reps. Jared Golden and Heidi Brooks easily won re-election with 71 and 62 percent of the vote, respectively. They will be joined by Democrats Roger Fuller and James Handy.

Fuller captured 58 percent of the vote to defeat Elliott Chicoine, who moved out of the district before the election.

Handy, with 51.1 percent of the vote, won a tight battle with Republican Matthew Roy, 2,442-2,335. The two candidates formerly served together on the Lewiston school board.

Democrat Gina Melaragno  and Republican Bruce Bickford of Auburn both won re-election with more than 60 percent of the vote. In the only open-seat race in Auburn, Bettyann Sheats defeated Michael Travers, 2,657-2453.

Ellie Espling of New Gloucester, the assistant Republican leader in the House, won a fourth term by taking 55 percent of the vote against Elijah Breton.

In other House races involving Androscoggin County candidates, Republicans Paul Chace of Durham, Jeffrey Timberlake of Turner and Stephen Wood of Sabattus won re-election, while Lisbon Republican Gina Mason won the open seat in District 56.

The three county Senate candidates — Republican Eric Brakey of Auburn, Republican Garrett Mason of Lisbon and Democrat Nathan Libby of Lewiston — all won re-election with ease.

There were a couple of noteworthy upsets around the state. Longtime legislator John Patrick of Rumford lost his Senate seat to Lisa Keim. Former Democratic House Floor Leader Jeff McCabe of Skowhegan lost his bid to move up to the Senate, losing to Rodney Whittemore, 53 percent to 47 percent.
