1953 – 2016
PORTLAND — Lawrence John Gallant, “Larry,” 63, died the evening of Monday, Nov. 28, at Maine Medical Center in Portland with his loving family by his side.
He was born Sept. 19, 1953, in Rumford, the son of Arthur (Splash) Gallant and Mary (Fleming) Gallant. He was a graduate of Rumford High School in 1972 and attended both the University of Maine at Orono and the University of Prince Edward Island.
On Oct. 17, 1992, he married Tammy (Barnett) Gallant and together they became the proud parents of their daughter, Makenzie Q., on Larry’s birthday in 1995. They made their home on the beautiful South Rumford Road, enjoying many special parties on their deck.
In his earlier days, Larry ran his way into becoming the last Rumford athlete to make 1st Team All State Running Back at the Class A football level. He also enjoyed jet-skiing with his wife, family gatherings at Worthley Pond, playing golf with his older brother, and entertaining family and friends with his impromptu antics. He was a lifelong Patriots and Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching Makenzie play sports in school.
Larry managed the Sherwin Williams Store in Rumford for almost 24 years, treating customers and contractors as if they were friends.
His co-workers, Peter and Bonnie Bart, managers Mitch and Phil, were truly his Sherwin Williams family.
Larry is survived by Tammy, his loving wife; Makenzie, his beautiful daughter; mother, Mary; mother-in-law, Gloria Barnett and Lindon Christie of Rumford; brothers, Lance and his wife, Susan, of Marathon, Fla., Lee and his wife, Kathy, of Rumford; sister, Lisa A. Fowler of Rumford; brothers-in-law, James and Dean Barnett and wife, Chris, of Rumford; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his father, Arthur (Splash); and father-in-law, Lewis Barnett.
A special thank-you to his Boston doctor and staff at Dana-Farber and the caring staff at Maine Medical Center, especially Katelyn and Corey.
