ANSWER: A melodeon, or diatonic button accordion, is a type of button accordion. Sun Spots was able to find one teacher, Christian Stevens in Freeport. He can be reached through his website www.juniorstevens.com.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the reader looking for canned grapefruit: Although not canned, local stores have jarred, fresh grapefruit. Wal-Mart carries a 64 oz. jar of Del Monte brand red grapefruit in extra light syrup. It is found in the produce aisle. They also have a no-sugar-added version. This jarred grapefruit is also sold at Shaw’s, but is a bit more expensive. Hope this helps! — Linda, Lisbon.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For the reader with scratches in their porcelain sink: I had the same problem and I found this product called Bar Keepers Friend at Home Depot. I used it according to the directions and it worked really well. It removed everything and made it look like new. There are probably other products that can do the job but I know that Bar Keepers Friend works. — Herb Masse, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Center for Wisdom’s Women has a few very specific volunteer needs.

The first is for someone to teach us how to use the Cricut machine that was donated to us.

The second is for a kitchen coordinator. This person would come to the Center weekly to oversee the care and maintenance of the kitchen and engage women in some bread baking (by hand or with our machine) and also gather women once or twice a month to prepare a healthy meal for sharing.

And of course we are always looking for just the right people to serve as companions. These are people with professional backgrounds as social workers, chaplains, teachers, or nurses who give a half day weekly. They are the non-judgmental listening presence with women at the Center.

If interested in any of these opportunities contact Klara Tammany at 207-513-3922. Thank you for helping find those who are interested and able to provide needed skills. — Klara Tammany, The Center for Wisdom’s Women.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Rumford Historical Society continues to encourage donations to meet our microfilm project’s financial goal of $10,000. Current contributions were sufficient for the purchase of the reader/printer, but funds are still needed to allow for the microfilms to be digitized into a PDF searchable file. This will allow for simpler access to old events and publicity of Rumford’s history. Donations can be made to: Rumford Historical Society, 145 Congress St., ME. 04276. — Jane Peterson, President, Rumford Historical Society.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am trying to track down a woman who has been buying boxes of disposable briefs and pads for caring for her husband. Please call me at 207-783-9355 as I have packages of these items to give to you. — Ann Palmer, Lewiston.
