TURNER – Maine first lady Karen Baldacci will feature Caldwell Farms, a producer of all-natural and organic beef, in a cooking demonstration to be included in an upcoming segment of the cable TV series “Focus on the Farm.”
The half-hour show will focus on Maine meat from field to table, and will include a discussion about Maine’s State Meat Inspection Program with Dr. Henrietta Beaufait, the program’s manager. It will also include a visit to L & P Bisson and Sons in Topsham, an integrated family operation that includes a farm, dairy, inspected slaughter facility and retail store.
A little more than a month ago, Caldwell All Natural Beef was involved in a recall after a Department of Agriculture inspector at Bubier Meats in Greene found some Caldwell beef hanging in a cooler next to some other beef that was contaminated with fecal material. None of the Caldwell beef was found to be contaminated, but in an effort to assure that their customers were protected, Caldwell beef, as well as the contaminated beef, was recalled. At that time, Bubier processed some of Caldwell’s beef products.
During the recall process, Caldwell’s “extensive cooperation, good record keeping, lot coding and tracking systems directly resulted in an efficient and successful recall,” according to agriculture officials.
“Caldwell Farms beef has always been and continues to be a product of the highest quality,” said Hal Prince, director of the Maine Department of Agriculture’s Division of Quality Assurance and Regulations, which oversees the state inspection program.
Baldacci hosts the Maine Department of Agriculture’s “Focus on the Farm” series to showcase Maine farmers and food producers and to help Maine consumers learn about the business of agriculture in Maine and where they can locate Maine food and farm products. The series, now in its third year, is produced and aired as a public service by Time Warner Cable throughout Maine.
The “Focus on the Farm” segment featuring Caldwell Farms beef will be repeatedly aired on Time Warner Cable beginning June 28.
