FARMINGTON – The annual Physicians in Rural Practice Symposium will take place Friday, March 23, at Franklin Memorial Hospital’s Ben Franklin Center.

This year’s symposium is titled Transforming Office Practice and Diabetic Care for the 21st Century. It is targeted for all health care professionals who work in rural Maine, including doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses.

The keynote lecture is named after the late Dr. Paul Brinkman, a rural practice role model. The keynote speaker will be Dr. L. Gordon Moore, presenting “Ideal Practice Innovation.” Dr. Moore is on the faculty at the University of Rochester Medical School in Rochester, N.Y., and is on the faculty at the Institute for Health Care Improvement. His work includes idealized design of clinical office practices and breakthrough improvements in access, interaction, reliability and vitality.

Also featured will be a panel discussion, a lunch presentation and breakout sessions on: group visits for diabetes; new DM medications; E-prescribing; management of pediatric diabetes; multidisciplinary team care of diabetes in innovative practices; and professional satisfaction and innovative practices.

A tuition fee includes the program, continuing education credits, continental breakfast, refreshments and lunch.
