RUMFORD – Dr. Padiath Aslam has joined Dr. William Kiley at Rumford Hospital Surgical Associates, 431 Franklin St., Rumford. Aslam expects to perform general and vein surgery. One of his areas of interest is minimally invasive vein surgery without the traditional “stripping” of the veins.
Aslam taught last year in a medical school in the Caribbean, but wanted to return to Maine as his wife’s parents were in need of her care. Until 2005 he had been an attending surgeon at Maine General Medical Center and an adjunct assistant professor of clinical, community and family medicine at Dartmouth Medical School.
Aslam is a graduate of Madras Medical College, Madras, India. He served internships at both Madras General Hospital and Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. He completed a residency in general surgery at City Hospital, Elmhurst, Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, and the VA Hospital, Bronx, N.Y.
Aslam is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. A member of the Maine Vascular Society, he was its president from 1989 to 1991. He is also a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
