AUBURN — A Mechanic Falls woman was allowed to remain free Friday after being sentenced for providing an alibi to a Lewiston man who was later convicted of murder.

Felicia Cadman, 23, was sentenced to 364 days with all but eight days suspended a year after she admitted to the charge of hindering apprehension. Cadman was credited for time served in jail and was allowed to remain free.

She was placed on probation for one year.

According to court records, Cadman had sought to provide an alibi for William True, then 22, on the night of April 9, 2013, when Romeo Parent of Lewiston was killed in Greene. Cadman, in an effort to deceive police, told them she had been with True that night, investigators said.

Prosecutors said True had, in fact, been in a wooded area in Greene that night participating in Parent’s murder.

A jury convicted True of murder in December 2014. He appealed his conviction. While that appeal was pending, prosecutors agreed to recommend a 25-year prison sentence for True. He also was convicted of felony hindering, for which he was sentenced to 10 years to be served at the same time.

Michael McNaughton, 28, of Lewiston was convicted of Parent’s murder six months before True.

An attorney for McNaughton argued in court last week that the state’s highest court should throw out his conviction and give him a new trial because detectives coerced a confession from him.
