AUGUSTA – Maine businesses are being asked to take part in Operation Keep Me Warm. This statewide project is aimed at weatherizing the homes of 3,000 low income senior citizens.
Businesses are being asked to announce the project and encourage employees to sign up in teams and volunteer a day of their time to weatherize homes in their communities. More than 3,000 volunteers are needed in the next three weeks to assist with the weatherization process. Organizers with the Maine Commission for Community Service are looking for 1,000 teams of three to four people to give a day of their time during the Keep ME Warm blitz Dec. 4-12.
Volunteers will be weather stripping doors, replacing furnace filters, caulking and covering windows, etc. All volunteers must be affiliated with a business, local organization, club, church, school, or other group.
Interested employees may sign up online in teams at www.volunteermaine.org or by calling (800) 452-8735.
