LEWISTON – Tomorrow is the last day folks can pick up a scone or sandwich at the downtown location of Just Joan’s. The 3-year-old eatery is closing its location at 33 Lisbon St. and consolidating operations at its location in Mr. Paperback in the Promenade Mall.
“It was a real hard decision to come to, I’ve made a lot of friends down here,” said Joan Pelletier, owner of the bakery and coffee shop.
Pelletier said business has been way off for the last four to six months and the shop’s lease was up, so it seemed the right time to make the move.
“I don’t know whether it’s the parking or all those people doing diets, but our sales have been way down,” she said.
Business at the mall location has been fine however. Pelletier said a significant number of her regular customers started coming to the mall location rather than the downtown because of the convenience.
“A lot of people said to me that they drive around two or three times looking for a place to park downtown,” said Pelletier. “A lot of them just continue on.”
Pelletier said Just Joan’s will continue to offer its catering and bakery services as always.
Hours have been expanded at the Mr. Paperback location to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday when the shop sponsors an open mike for musicians; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The phone number has changed to 783-4241.
