LEWISTON – A Lewiston Veterinary Hospital employee was recently licensed by the state as a veterinary technician.

Shannon Roy of Lewiston passed the Maine Board of Veterinary Medicine licensing exam and was awarded certification in February.

As a registered technician, she is licensed to induce anesthesia, perform dental work, assist in surgery, draw blood and administer intravenous fluids as well as conduct radiologic exams and other nursing duties.

Roy, a native of Caswell, joined the Lewiston practice in July after working in animal care in Leicester, Mass., and at the Presque Isle Animal Hospital in Presque Isle.

She received an associate degree in veterinary technology from Becker College in Leicester, Mass., in 2003.

The Lewiston Veterinary Hospital at 75 Stetson Road has a staff of six licensed veterinary technicians and four licensed veterinarians.

Dr. Forest W. Clark, president of Lewiston Veterinary Hospital Inc., said, “We are committed to providing the highest quality medical care and personnel for our clients and therefore I’m proud to support Shannon in becoming a registered veterinary nurse.”
