LEWISTON – LifeFlight of Maine has earned full accreditation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems.

Similar to the assessment of hospitals by the Joint Commission of Accredited Healthcare Organizations, CAMTS accreditation is a voluntary external assessment of quality in all aspects of operations.

Besides the flight program and communications center, the commission accredited LifeFlight’s ground critical care transport program that partners with United Ambulance in Lewiston and Meridian Mobile Health in Bangor.

Tom Judge, executive director of LifeFlight of Maine, noted, “We are very strong believers in external assessment of quality.

Our parent organizations, Eastern Maine Healthcare and Central Maine Healthcare, set achieving accreditation as a goal for LifeFlight from the beginning. Our performance should be measured against the best of the best. We are extremely proud of achieving this goal on behalf of all the patients we serve.”
