AUBURN – Ryan Connon of Waterville has been named chair of the computer technology department at Central Maine Community College.

Patricia Vampatella, dean of academic affairs at the college said of Connon, “we are delighted to have someone with Ryan’s extensive background in information technology to lead our computer technology program into its next phase. He brings a wonderful blend of expertise, experience and enthusiasm.”

Connon’s experience includes being a computer technician at a Rockport computer company and six years as director of information technology for Village Soup, an Internet service provider in Camden.

He also worked for MBNA in the systems department and continues to provide consulting services for small to large companies across the U.S. He taught at Thomas College, from which he is a graduate. He is pursuing a masters of science in computer technology education.

In addition to his professional activities, Connon holds a pilots license and is an FAA certified instructor. He is also a project pilot mentor for the Aircraft Owners’ and Pilots’ Association.

Safety Council

plans workshop

AUGUSTA – Maine Safety Council will conduct an eight-hour workshop on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Maine Motor Transport Association in Augusta. The program is designed to evaluate problems that may cause overhead crane failures, and to review policies, procedures, inspection items and OSHA regulations.

There is a $200 fee to attend the workshop, which includes breakfast and lunch. It will run from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Local attorney certified in law

Tucson, Ariz. – The National Elder Law Foundation has announced that Kathleen Kienitz of Lewiston has completed its examination and is now a certified elder law attorney. The foundation is the only organization approved by the American Bar Association to offer this certification.

The certification means that an attorney has an in-depth working knowledge of the legal issues that impact the elderly.

Kienitz has practiced law for 12 years. She focuses her practice on elder law, estate planning and probate administration, planning for incapacity, Medicaid planning and applications, Medicare and Medicaid appeals, guardianships and conservatorships. A graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Michigan State University, she lives in Auburn.
