LIVERMORE FALLS — The Planning Board will consider an application Thursday from Central Maine Power Co. to upgrade transmission lines and a substation.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 at the town office.

CMP is proposing a $1.5 billion upgrade to its bulk power system that will stretch about 350 miles from the town of Eliot on the New Hampshire border to Orrington, where it connects to transmission lines from northern and eastern Maine.

A leg of that upgrade will run from Lewiston to Rumford, crossing several towns including Livermore Falls.

CMP is requesting Livermore Falls Planning Board approval under the town’s Site Plan Review Ordinance, Shoreland Zoning Ordinance and Floodplain Management Ordinance.

The company has been studying Maine’s transmission system to ensure that it can continue to reliably deliver electricity to homes and businesses in the future.

The study, according to the company, identified several areas that require attention within the next three to five years.

The intent is to install a new 115 kilovolt transmission line, which crosses over about 7.9 miles in town, and to expand the existing substation located south of Moose Hill Road.
