AUGUSTA (AP) – An elderly Maine woman has died from burns she suffered two weeks ago when her clothing caught fire.

The state fire marshal’s office says 82-year-old Ruth Reid of Thorndike died during the weekend at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Reid was critically burned when her clothing caught fire while she was cooking on a gas stove at her home. Her son was able to put out the flames, and she was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

State Fire Marshal John Dean says Maine has had six deaths in the past three years resulting from clothing catching fire.
