100 years ago, 1909

The 200 and more boys who are in the Healey Asylum were given a genuine treat Saturday afternoon when M. J. Googin, his mother and his son extended to them the freedom of the spacious grounds on Webster Street. Harry L. Plummer took a group photograph and everyone of them had a great time. Apples, ice cream and fancy crackers were served. Then games were played and the afternoon was gone all too soon. 

50 years ago, 1959

Auburn Patrolman Robert L. Vaillancourt, 26, has been accepted for enlistment in the State Police force and will tender his resignation from the Auburn Police Department within the next few days.

Vaillancourt will report to the State Police Troop B barracks at Scarborough on Oct. 1 and expects to attend a teletype school for a few days before his initial assignment. His resignation from the Auburn force will become effective Sept. 30. 

25 years ago, 1984

Patricia J. Reynolds of Fort Fairfield has been sworn in as assistant district attorney for Androscoggin County, joining District Attorney Janet T. Mills. Ms. Reynolds is a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law and will be working in 8th District Court in Lewiston and Androscoggin Superior Court in Auburn. She is a former associate with law offices in Fort Kent and Caribou.
