The Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee handled many big issues this session, including legislation to create a tiered milk pricing system to help small dairy farmers. Because of his previous job as northeast area director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Timothy Carter said he was able to add a lot to the discussions.
Carter, a freshman legislator, said he faced a steep learning curb coming in, which the freshman caucus and his seatmates helped him overcome.
One of the three bills he submitted passed, to adjust the school funding formula to more adequately account for students in the unorganized territories.
He also cosponsored a bill with Sen. John Nutting, D-Leeds, to expand the fall wild turkey hunting season, which failed, but the issue is still being discussed.
In the Agriculture Committee, he said he was able to work with other members in a bipartisan fashion and report out or kill most bills unanimously.
