GEORGETOWN (AP) – A 29-year-old Vermont man was killed when he apparently slipped off a cliff and fell 25 feet into a crevasse while hiking on Malden Island, authorities said.
The victim, whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was walking with a group of hikers Saturday afternoon when he decided to leave the trail, the Maine Marine Patrol said.
A woman who was not a member of the hiking party tried to revive the victim, Sgt. Rene Cloutier said. The woman was treated at a Boothbay Harbor hospital for hypothermia.
