HUDSON (AP) – State investigators have summonsed an 18-year-old firefighter they suspect was involved in a series of cabin fires in Penobscot County, the most recent of which occurred early this week.

Investigators said they have begun looking into other area fires to see if there are factors that connect them.

Charles Lawrence, a firefighter with the Hudson Fire Department, is scheduled to appear in court May 24 in connection with a fire that occurred Monday.

State fire marshal John Dean said investigators were talking to Lawrence on Tuesday, and further charges may follow.

Dean would not say what led investigators to connect Lawrence to the fire, but added Penobscot County prosecutors are trying to determine how to proceed in the case.

There was no listed telephone number for Lawrence in Hudson.
