NEWRY (AP) – Police are investigating the death of a 38-year-old woman from Portland involved in a collision while skiing at Sunday River ski resort.
Sunday River spokesman Jim Costello said the woman collided with a teenage boy from Massachusetts while skiing an advanced trail at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. She was flown by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she died Thursday night.
Costello said neither skier was wearing a helmet, and that the woman appeared to suffer head injuries. The boy was not seriously injured.
Officials have not released the name of the woman.
Officials with the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department are investigating. It was the first skiing death at Sunday River in more than three years, Costello said.
