PORTLAND (AP) – Energy East has picked New Gloucester as the site of a business expansion that will create more than 100 high-paying jobs in the financial sector, Gov. John Baldacci announced Thursday.
Energy East plans to occupy 60,000 square feet at a new office park that the Libra Foundation developed at the site of the former Pineland Center, the governor said.
The jobs will be in the executive, accounting, finance, tax and regulatory areas and offer salaries that average $65,000, he said.
Baldacci noted that the utility, which has operations in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine, had various options on where to locate the expansion.
“The decision to locate in Maine sends a significant and positive message about our ability to compete and about Energy East’s commitment to build its economic future here,” he said.
Energy East has 3 million customers, including 544,000 served by Central Maine Power.
