AUGUSTA (AP) – An Augusta man was charged with manslaughter and aggravated drunken driving after the pickup truck he was driving veered across the center line and killed a Windsor couple on a motorcycle, police said.

Douglas Gardner, 47, and his wife, Joanne Gardner, 49, died at the scene of the head-on collision at 7:17 p.m. Saturday, said police Lt. Peter Couture.

The pickup driver, Shawn Jellison, 35, of Augusta, was being held at the Kennebec County Jail with bond set at $500,000 in property or $200,000 cash, Couture said.

The accident remained under investigation Sunday. But police believe Jellison caused the collision when he veered into the path of Gardner’s 2006 Harley-Davidson, Couture said. Jellison and his passengers, a woman and her toddler son, suffered minor injuries.
