WILTON – Tractor Supply Co. took another step toward opening a retail store on Routes 2 and 4 Thursday when it submitted plans to the town.
The project will go before the Planning Board on May 7, when a date will be set to walk the property across from Bryant Road, Code Enforcement Officer Paul Montague said.
Oak Engineers of Portland submitted the plan for DMK Development of Muskegon, Mich.
According to the plans, a 19,097-square-foot building with a 15,000-square-foot, fenced-in sales area is being proposed for the site just west of Comfort Inn. Customer parking and a trailer display area are also planned.
The back of the 4.4 acre property borders Wilson Stream, but the lot is within a commercial zone, Montague said. Some excavation of the property is expected on the rectangular shaped piece of land at 979 Route 2 East.
The entrance will be designed to include potential development behind the store, Montague said.
Along with larger lawn tractors, splitters and chippers, the store offers a variety of merchandise for home gardeners and yard equipment, Montague said.
Plans include a retail store open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will employ five to seven full-time and seven to eight part-time workers.
DMK Developers is the applicant for owner Scott Fisher of Naples, Fla.
Foreside Architects of Falmouth is the architectural firm for the project.
