LIVERMORE FALLS – Selectmen will formally vote on hiring James Chaousis II of Livermore as town manager at the April 21 meeting, board Chairwoman Louise Chabot said Tuesday.

The 32-year-old former Marine will be paid $45,000 under his one-year contract. He is scheduled to start work April 21. He will attend the special town meeting, public budget hearing and selectmen meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office that night. He is preparing a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed $2.7 million budget for the hearing.

“I am really excited about this opportunity,” Chaousis said Tuesday.

He will graduate from the University of Maine at Augusta with a degree in public administration in December, Chabot said.

He doesn’t have experience in the public sector, the chairwoman said, but he does have a lot of good management experience in the military.

“He is a very enthusiastic person,” she said, adding that he has good research skills and is a numbers person.

Chaousis grew up in Livermore, graduated from Livermore Falls High School in 1995 and returned to his hometown four years ago.

“We’re very pleased he is from the area,” Chabot said, and knows about living in a small town. “He is very friendly and likes working with people.”

Chaousis said he can relate to the people in Livermore Falls, whom he described as diligent, hardworking and caring.

“I want to work hard to give some of their hard work back,” he said.

Chaousis served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years as a helicopter crew chief and mechanic. Afterward, he worked as a mechanic at J.J. Nissen bakery in Biddeford and left there as a supervisor, he said.

He and his wife, Liz, have an 8-year-old daughter, Caitlin.

Chaousis was chosen from 32 applicants to succeed Martin Puckett, who was selected last September to manage the Aroostook County towns of Mapleton, Chapman and Castle Hill. Town Clerk/Treasurer Kristal Flagg has been serving as interim manager since then.
