WILTON – A passenger injured in a crash last week on Main Street near Stony Brook Trailer Park was released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston Tuesday according to his mother, Lynn Kerr of New Sharon.
Matthew Kerr, 17, a junior at Mt. Blue High School, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital by ambulance where he was later taken by LifeFlight to CMMC.
A release issued by Wilton police soon after the accident stated Kerr suffered a broken back and head trauma but Wilton police Chief Dennis Brown refused to release Kerr’s name, saying he may have been the subject of a criminal investigation. Wednesday, after releasing information in response to the Sun Journal’s public access request, Brown said that investigation was closed and there were no charges expected.
Kerr broke a bone in his back and will be in a back brace for three months and had to undergo facial reconstruction but is doing well, Lynn Kerr said Wednesday.
The driver, Joseph R. Buckman Jr., 18, of Wilton, was ejected from the vehicle and was also transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released the day of the accident.
According to the police report the 2005 Dodge Buckman was driving is owned by Brenda Mitchell of Phillips.
The vehicle was traveling west when Buckman lost control and it went into a ditch, became airborne and came to rest on its side facing the opposite direction of travel. Police said they believe speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
