FARMINGTON – Voters will decide Tuesday whether to prohibit election campaign signs on the traffic island where High Street meets Farmington Falls Road during a special town meeting.
A regular selectmen’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, followed by the town meeting at 7 p.m. Both will be held downstairs in the Community Center on Middle Street.
A cluster of campaign signs may be considered unsightly but can also block the view of traffic, Town Manager Richard Davis said earlier this month.
One of three articles on the meeting warrant will ask voters to amend the sign ordinance to prohibit signs in the traffic island. Sign posting is already prohibited at the foot of the hill where Falls Road meets Main Street and at the traffic island in West Farmington where the town’s community sign is located.
Voters will also be asked to approve an easement for KNK Properties, LLC, to cross the town parking lot at Exchange and Pleasant streets. Owners of the old Masonic building on Main Street, KNK Properties need a larger water line to the building for a sprinkler system.
The third article would authorize selectmen to deed a small lot near Temple Stream in West Farmington to Kevin and Judy Vining in exchange for a lot the couple is giving the town for a new pumping station.
Prior to the town meeting, the board will consider an appeal of a Fairbanks homeowner’s sewer connection fees and hear an update on the status of a mobile home owned by Randy and Amy Carsten. The board gave the couple 60 days in August to improve the dangerous condition of their residence on Dutch Drive.
