LIVERMORE FALLS – Foundry Road will be turned into a one-way street and the access road to the skate park will be closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Selectmen voted to approve the request from the Apple-Pumpkin Festival Committee to improve traffic flow, parking and handicapped accessibility to the recreation field where the Apple-Pumpking Festival is held.
Road access will be restricted for one day only, after 9:30 a.m. and during the festival which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Committee member John Ross told selectmen each year more people come to the festival, especially now that it is held on the recreation field.
But as attendance increases, more issues arise.
This year, they would like to make Foundry Road one-way from behind the municipal building to Route 133 at Shuy Corner, Ross said, allowing parking only on the right side of the road.
They also want to close the access road to the skate park to vehicle traffic, except for those with handicap tags or plates, to make it a pedestrian way.
Those requiring handicapped accessibility would be allowed to park on the grass and in front of the skate park to have easier access to the field, Ross said.
The proposal has been discussed with Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. and he believes he would be able to patrol Foundry Road and the parking situation to make sure emergency vehicles would be able to get through, Ross said.
The committee is also working on setting up a shuttle to the field.
