RANGELEY – Two wait staff at the Rangeley Inn have been charged in connection to altering 17 credit card receipts for services, Police Chief Phil Weymouth said.
The issue came to police attention on Aug. 8, after a customer reported to the owner that an extra $100 had been added to his credit card, Weymouth said.
The man had paid a bill of about $800 and left a $100 tip on the card but when he checked his bill at home, the tip charged was increased to $200, he said.
The inn owner checked other credit receipts and noticed other alterations and brought it to attention to police.
Officer Dennis Leahy conducted an investigation and charged the Rangeley residents on Wednesday, Weymouth said.
“Seventeen credit card receipts have been found altered so far,” Weymouth said.
The overall amount stolen was $365, he said.
Leahy charged Meaghan Bolduc, 22, with 16 counts of theft by receiving, 16 counts of theft by unlawful taking and one count of criminal conspiracy, the chief said.
Austin Joshua, 25, was charged with one count each of theft by receiving, theft by unlawful taking and criminal conspiracy, he said.
The thefts occurred over a month from July into August, Weymouth said.
They are no longer working at the inn, he added.
