FARMINGTON – Lightning struck a pole Saturday afternoon at the Farmington Fairgrounds bringing down wires for the speakers for the horse racing grandstand, said George Barker, director of buildings and grounds for the fair association.
The pole was not found until Sunday morning when horse owners tried to exercise their animals and couldn’t make it around the track because of the downed lines, he said.
The lightning split the top of the pole.
Repairs will be made before the start of fair in September, he said.
