FARMINGTON – A combination of people buying more locally, living healthy and supporting local farmers has more customers attending the Sandy River Farmers Market on Fridays. More vendors are also bringing their produce to market, said market treasurer Dave King of Phillips.
The market is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Friday for 26 weeks, starting in early May till the end of October, in the Better Living Center parking area.
“It’s grown over the years with 11 there last Friday and more vendors expected as crops mature in August,” he said.
Besides vegetables, a variety of items are available including meat, eggs, cheese, perennials and plants, baked good, soaps, handmade wine glasses and hummingbird feeders, he said.
Supporting local farmers and buying locally has the advantage of items being transported by vehicle in minutes compared to four days from California. They leave a smaller carbon footprint as they travel less, he added.
If Karla Bock of Hoof ‘n Paw Farms is any indication, people appreciate the goodness of the fresh items, he said. She has people lined up at 8:45 a.m. waiting for her to open week after week.
And the Farmers Market has a waiting list of vendors ready to join, he added.
