JAY – A Jay man was killed and two passengers were injured early Sunday after a pickup truck on East Jay Road went out of control, rolled over, struck a pole and came to rest against a tree, police Chief Larry White Sr. said Sunday.
Driver Jeremy Munson, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:14 a.m. accident off Route 133, White said.
Munson’s wife, Megan Munson, 24, who was in the front passenger seat of the 2003 GMC truck, and Chet Alexander, 29, of Chesterville, in the rear seat, were taken by ambulance to Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Farmington, White said.
Both were treated and released, he added.
“Excessive speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the accident,” White said.
Those in the vehicle had just left a local night club prior to the accident, White said.
The accident happened when Munson’s truck veered to the right off the roadway, struck some mailboxes, a utility pole and then came to rest with the undercarriage of the truck against a tree, White said.
Franklin County Deputy Heidi Gould and the Jay Fire Rescue Department assisted at the scene, just south of Warren Hill Road.
Jay Detective Andrew Hufnagel, assisted by Sgt. Troy Young, investigated the crash with Maine State Police Trooper Daniel Hanson reconstructing it.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
