FARMINGTON – A woman accused of driving drunk and causing the death of a 20-year-old Wilton woman in February on Routes 2 and 4 in Farmington will waive her right to a jury trial, her attorney, John Alsop said Tuesday.

Jury selection for the case was to be held Thursday.

The other option Sarah Forbes, 44, of Farmington has is to reach an agreement with the state, Alsop said.

The case is expected to be heard either this month or next.

Forbes was released on $10,000 unsecured bail in late February after she was charged with manslaughter and aggravated criminal operating under the influence in connection with the incident.

Forbes was traveling toward downtown Farmington near Boivins Harvest House the night of Feb. 23 when her 2001 Mercury Mountaineer SUV struck a snowmobile, police said then.

Rick Billian, 23, of Strong, an off-duty Farmington police officer, was traveling in a party of five snowmobiles with his fiancee, Lisa Cerqueira, 20, of Wilton as his passenger.

Billian’s sled crossed the highway, but one ski stuck on the curb so he got off to straighten it. Cerqueira stayed on the machine and was knocked off when the SUV hit it.

She died several days later from her injuries. Billian was also injured and has since recovered.

An affidavit filed with the court by Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective David St. Laurent stated that Forbes’ blood alcohol level was .16 percent, which is twice the legal limit in Maine, when she was arrested for driving under the influence after the accident.

Forbes admitted to police that she was driving the vehicle and had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel, the police affidavit stated.
