CHESTERVILLE – A deputy ended up using a Taser to subdue a Chesterville man who was scuffling with a state trooper as the two law enforcement agents tried to arrest him.
Norman Parent, 70, was arrested on charges of terrorizing and refusing to submit to arrest, county Chief Deputy Ray Meldrum said Monday.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Stephen Charles responded to a complaint of terrorizing late Friday at 86 Stinchfield Hill Road, Meldrum said.
Police went to the residence to talk to Parent, and after speaking to him and gathering information, Charles and Maine State Trooper Randall Keaten went to arrest him, Meldrum said.
He was “agitated, confrontational and very aggressive and told them he wasn’t going anywhere with them,” Meldrum read from Charles’ report.
Parent got into a scuffle with Keaten and Charles “tased” him to subdue him and take him into custody, Meldrum said.
He was taken to Franklin County Detention Center early Saturday morning and released on $2,000 cash bail later that day. He is scheduled to appear Sept. 20 at a Farmington court.
Parent was unavailable for comment on Monday.
