LIVERMORE FALLS – Downtown will be graced with new, forest-green banners with white printing with the town’s tower clock emblazoned on them.

The Livermore Falls Downtown Betterment Group is buying 15 banners and heavy-duty brackets to hold them, President Phil Poirier said.

The banners are on marine acrylic woven canvas that is sturdy, he said.

The group is seeking to revitalize the downtown village economically and aesthetically and has already made several beautification improvements.

The banners will hang on poles downtown, including those the group has painted black and added new lights.

Member Heidi Wilde is repainting the “Welcome to Livermore Falls” sign that will be hung on the gateway sign near the bridge.

The group’s promotions committee has developed a survey to gauge people’s interest in what they would like to see downtown. Selectmen agreed to send the survey out with tax bills once they’re mailed.

The goal of the survey is to get community feedback and encourage engagement with the downtown, committee member Tricia Cook said.

“Our hope is to gain the support of the community and have the community help guide the work of the betterment group,” Cook said. “We are interested in finding out what the community would like to see happen in the downtown, what services they currently take advantage of and what businesses and services they would like to have move in. We want to know where their favorite spots are and hear ideas of how we can make the downtown inviting and attractive to residents and visitors …”

The betterment group will use survey results as a starting point for a series of public forums to discuss the results and make decisions on where to go from there, Poirier said.
