WILTON – Updated property valuations for the town will be available in late May or early June, Selectmen were told Tuesday.
D. Kevin Rake, who is supervising the town’s revaluation by Cole Layer Trumble, attended Tuesday night’s selectmen’s meeting to discuss the project, which has been going on since 2006.
“The analysis is about to start,” he said. “We’re in a really good place.”
When final values are calculated after April 1, Rake said, he’ll send out notices to property owners informing them of the new numbers, and give time for them to discuss their questions.
If need be, he and the others working on the project will have time to reassess their numbers after talking to taxpayers.
Property owners might be worried their taxes will go up a lot if their home’s valuation does, Rake said, but that usually doesn’t happen. If the town budget goes up at a normal rate, the mill rate will probably decrease, he said.
The town’s last comprehensive revaluation was in 1977, Town Manager Peter Nielsen said.
